Health Technology Assessment (HTA)
Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a systematic assessment of the preconditions for and the consequences of using health technology.
Health technology is the methods and equipment used to detect, diagnose, treat, care for and prevent diseases and health problems. It can be anything from apps, video consultations and questionnaires to AI, VR, wearables, robots and drones.
An HTA provides hospital management with a research-based basis for deciding whether new treatments or technologies should be introduced in the hospital. An HTA is not a decision in itself, but a well-documented basis for possible decisions.
For patients, an HTA means that they receive the treatment that provides the greatest possible effect and the best patient experience – documented by a solid scientific basis.
Health Technology Assessment assesses the consequences of new medical technology in four key areas: The technology, the patient, the organisation and the costs.
We can help with HTA
The HTA unit at Odense University Hospital works primarily with innovation and research projects at OUH, but can also assist with projects at other hospitals etc. in Denmark. The employees of the HTA unit are involved on all levels from supervision to project management with responsibility for the project’s progress.
The HTA unit is also part of the Centre for Innovative Medical Technology (CIMT).
Contact Innovation, Research & HTA at OUH at ouh.klu.innovation@rsyd.dk to learn more about the possibilities of an HTA.
