The Department of Radiology in Svendborg is a cross-disciplinary clinical department with no inpatient beds. It serves both inpatients and outpatients, accepting referrals from specialists, general practitioners and private physicians.
The department conducts a wide range of examinations across several specialties, including neurology, thoracic, cardiovascular, abdominal, urology, musculoskeletal, oncology, and interventional radiology. Services provided range from basic diagnostic tests to specialised examinations and interventional treatments.
Diagnostic procedures are carried out using conventional X-rays, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and ultrasound across all organ systems. The department also performs interventional procedures such as biopsies, catheter placements, nephrostomies, and biliary drainages.
The department employs approximately 89 staff members, including radiologists, radiographers, administrative staff, and technical personnel. It operates five multislice CT scanners, two MRI scanners (1.5 Tesla), nine conventional X-ray rooms, and two ultrasound rooms, spread across four hospital locations: Svendborg, Nyborg, Rudkøbing, and Ærøskøbing.
The department serves as a training centre for radiology trainees in Region of Southern Denmark as well as undergraduate radiographers from University College Lillebælt. Additionally, it offers placements for medical secretary students.
