The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics is one of four specialist departments within gynaecology and obstetrics in the Region of Southern Denmark.
Overall, the highly specialised functions include:
- Gynaecological oncology
- Infertility
- Uterine artery embolisation for leiomyomata
- Complicated prolapse and incontinence
- Pregnancy with complicated medical or surgical disorders
- Prenatal diagnostics
- Overall, the Department is responsible for 24 highly specialised functions, see the new speciality plan
Common gynaecology:
- Different aspects of endometriosis
- Hormone replacement therapy in peri- and postmenopausal women
- Hereditary breast-ovarian cancer
- Embolisation of uterine fibroids
- Genital infections
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), adiposity and the female hormonal profile
Fertility:
- Clinical studies on hormonal factors controlling human female reproduction
- In vitro maturation (IVM) of human oocytes in the treatment of infertility (PhD project)
- Studies on LH receptor expression in human ovarian granulosa cells
- Studies on human embryonal stem cells
- Preimplantation genetic disorders
- Improvement of procedures for Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI)
- Male infertility
Gynaecological oncology:
- Case management
- Delay in treatment of gynaecologic cancer patients
- Psychological aspects in treatment of gynaecologic cancer patients
- Translational research. Use of microarray techniques and proteomics in diagnosing and prognostication of women with ovarian cancer
Staff
The department is managed by a lead consultant, a head nurse and a head of midwifery. The Department's wards, outpatient departments, maternity ward, surgery ward, fertility clinic and other sections are managed by section/clinic management. This management typically comprises a lead consultant as well as a lead nurse and/or a lead midwife.
The department's medical staff (66) comprises:

- 6 professsorships, two of which are guest proffersorships
- 34 consultants
- 25 junior physicians
