Core Tasks
The Department is specialized in treating the complexity of elder medical and geriatric patients with multimorbidity, polypharmacy, age-related changes, and physical and/or cognitive problems.
The Department is the Regions main place for the specialized training of physicians in geriatric medicine. Furthermore, the Department participates in basic training of physicians in internal medicine, in the education of medical students, students in nursing and assistantnursing, students in physio- and occupational-therapy, and medical secretaries.
The majority of patients in the ward are admitted acute through the hospitals acute ward.
The geriatric outpatient clinic receives elective and sub-acute referrals for evaluation and treatment of geriatric patients. The department is specialized in the evaluation and treatment of dementia in patients with comorbidities and polypharmacy. The Falls Clinic is a specialized outpatient unit offering systematic evaluation and treatment of causes of falling and instability.
