Core Tasks

The Department of Audiology is an interdisciplinary clinical department. The Department sees children and adults, both inpatients as well as outpatients.

We provide a wide range of services in the following areas:

  • Assessment, treatment, follow-up and aftercare for both children and adults with hearing loss and balance problems.

  • We offer specialist services to people from a wide age range - from babies just a few months old, to adults over the age of 80.

  • Newborn hearing screening programme.

  • Tinnitus therapy

  • Cochlear implant. Assessment and follow-up of adults. Assessment of children, but no follow-up, as CI operations on children are centralized in Aarhus and Copenhagen.

  • We also see children for the assessment of auditory processing disorder (APD)

All our services are provided by experienced staff with a high level of expertise.

We have about 58 staff members including audiologists, audiology therapists, physicians (medical audiologists and trainees) including one post. doc., oto-technicians and medical secretaries.

We work very closely with the ENT Department as well as the Department of Oncology and the H.C. Andersen Children's Hospital in Odense.

We are available via GP referral or referral from other hospitals, private ENT specialists or hearing therapists, and we cover the Region of Southern Denmark (about 1.2 million inhabitants). Our Cochlear Implant Centre is one of three centres in Denmark.

Currently we are developing a cochlear implant database in cooperation with the ENT Department to gather information on CI follow-up from both departments.
